Custom Orthotics
What is Custom Orthotics?
Functional Foot Orthotics (FFOs) are custom-made devices that you wear inside your shoes to help support and improve the function of your feet. Unlike over-the-counter shoe inserts, which are designed to provide general comfort and support, FFO`s are specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of your feet based on a detailed biomechanical assessment by our team of experts.

These orthoses work by correcting abnormal loads acting upon the soft tissue in your feet which occur due to poor mechanics. When your feet are not functioning properly, it can lead to a multitude of other issues within your lower limb. FFOs aim to correct these issues by ensuring your feet function more efficiently in conjunction with the correct footwear and in some cases, physiotherapy input to increase the strength and resilience of your muscles.
Your initial consultation is key to understanding you and the demands you put through your feet and legs. The consultation involves a thorough biomechanical assessment and a detailed understanding of your symptoms and activities. Examination of your gait helps to understand how you move and in turn, the possible reasons why you have symptoms.

Data capture of your foot anatomy is achieved a number of ways, and this method is determined by the type of FFO that is best suited to your needs. Plaster casting to create an accurate model of your feet, digital scanning and foam molds are some of the common methods utilized. This model is then used to design orthoses that precisely fit the contours of your feet and address your specific issue(s).
