What is Sports Orthotics?

Sports orthotics is an area that we excel at. Mr Gallogly is renowned in sport for his injury management approach, looking after professional teams such as the England rugby team, GB rowing, premier league and championship football as well as the Scottish premiership.

They can offer a range of biomechanical benefits that enhance athletic performance and reduce the risk of injury. These specialized insoles are designed to provide support, stability, and shock absorption tailored to the demands of various sports activities.

One key benefit of sports insoles is their ability to improve foot alignment and biomechanics. By providing support to the arches and promoting proper foot alignment, sports insoles help distribute pressure evenly across the foot. This reduces strain on specific areas and minimizes the risk of overuse injuries such as plantar fasciitis or stress fractures.

When coming up with the right design of orthosis for sport, it’s important to understand the footwear that is being used and also the forces that are being exerted through the body for the particular activity. For example, the needs of a rugby player, a netball player, an elderly person playing tennis and an ultra-marathon runner will all be vastly different.

Wearing the right footwear when undertaking your sport is as important as the training you participate in to achieve your level of fitness. We work hard to ensure you are wearing the right trainers/boots for your sport and will advise on the most appropriate solution for you.

Through your assessment it may be discovered that the main biomechanics problem relates to poor technique and the need for an improvement in this rather than the requirement of an insole. If this is the case, we will be able to guide you to the most appropriate clinician.
